"And that's why the world got Superman - not because America is the greatest country on earth - but because a little boy lost his father." "Nobody knows the story, because in 50 years of interviews, when they ask Jerry Siegel where did you get the idea for Superman, he never tells anybody that his father died in a robbery," says Meltzer. (The family was split in their understanding of the death.) The elder Siegel was a haberdasher who died in a robbery in 1932 - either as a result of a gunshot wound or a heart attack. The woman turned out to be Jerry Siegel's niece, and she introduced Meltzer to the rest of the family, who told him about the mysterious death of Mitchell Siegel, Jerry's father. Meltzer's inspiration for the novel came at a book signing two years ago, when a woman in the audience declared that she knew more about Superman than he would ever know. Proper cornering technique and precision racing maneuvers (such as trail braking) are given priority in simulation racing games.Īlthough these racing simulators are specifically built for people with a high grade of driving skill, it is not uncommon to find aids that can be enabled from the game menu. This is a staple feature in kart racing games such as the Mario Kart series, but this kind of game mechanic also appears in standard, car-based racing games as well. For example, a motorbike that the player sits on and moves around to control the on-screen action, or a car-like cabinet (with seats, steering wheel, pedals and gear stick) that moves around in sync with the on-screen action. ![]() Popular arcade-style racing franchises include Out Run, Ridge Racer, Daytona USA, Need for Speed, Sega Rally, Cruis'n, Burnout, Rush, Midnight Club, and MotorStorm.Ĭonversely, many arcade racing games in amusement arcades frequently use hydraulic motion simulator arcade cabinets that simulate the look and feel of driving or riding a vehicle. Races take place on highways, windy roads, or in cities they can be multiple-lap circuits or point-to-point sprints, with one or multiple paths sometimes with checkpoints, or other types of competition, like demolition derby, jumping, or testing driving skills. They often license real cars and leagues, but are equally open to more exotic settings and vehicles. For the most part, arcade-style racers simply remove the precision and rigor required from the simulation experience and focus strictly on the racing element itself. Collisions with other racers, track obstacles, or traffic vehicles is usually much more exaggerated than simulation racers as well. Whereas in real racing (and subsequently, the simulation equivalents) the driver must reduce their speed significantly to take most turns, arcade-style racing games generally encourage the player to "powerslide" the car to allow the player to keep up their speed by drifting through a turn. Just this morning I sat here talking about this crazy live show. ![]() I have some plans in the future that I’m very excited about. It’s something that I really wanted to sing live.Īre you starting to think about live performances? Because “Cry” is something that is very dear to my heart that I very much believe in and feel very close to. It was really just a joke track that I didn’t expect to be released. My friends in London call it a piss-take, which means like a joke. Or I wish Katy Perry got a song like “I’m Bored.” But I really was bored, and I put it out and that was that. You feel me? In my opinion, I wish Anne-Marie got “I’m Bored.” I love her. I felt like there was a big disconnect where I couldn’t… Those were little things to enjoy in the moment, but they weren’t work. I found it very hard to release the things that I wanted to. I feel like everybody’s energies were a little wack, and not everyone was in a headspace of working. Was “Cry” following in the footsteps of stand-alone singles like “I’m Bored” and “Mommy” then, but it turned into something more? Then that feeling kind of followed me, and it became an EP. “Cry” was really just how I was feeling at that moment, and I thought it was important to release it when I felt that way. To be totally honest, I didn’t think the EP was going to exist yet. Is there a reason why “Cry” was the first song you dropped from the EP? Literally that specific part that you just said. I think that song is one of my favorites on there, too. The fact that that’s the thing that resonated with you makes me so happy. We need to have that sound effect before dancing. I have a very big smile on my face because that part almost did not make it in. The most instant song for me was “Cry.” The breakdown after the chorus with the hiccups was a moment that totally took me away. Thank you! Were there any songs that you were like, “Okay, I get it?” I’m always curious… Forget what I think, I want to know what the listener thinks and hears. I feel like a lot of these songs on the EP are for putting your hands over your chest and crying it out. I’ve been wanting to be close to a finish line for a minute now, and I’m really happy with “I Love the Weekend.” It was written during a time that was very blue for me, and I tried to just dance those blues away. I love the idea of being closer to a finish line. How do you feel to be at the finish line? You’ve been dropping singles from this project for the last seven months. She also spills some tea about her arsenal of years-old, still on-trend unreleased music, dream collaborators and more. Lemme delves deeper into the topic on the EP's opener, "I Love the Weekend." Meanwhile, "Cry" - an obvious standout that interpolates Eiffel 65's biggest hit - celebrates the catharsis of letting loose a couple tears and features a killer breakdown laced with the sort of hiccups one would make while breaking down. The equally addictive "Girls" is a queer anthem with plenty of replay factor.Īs a whole, the project showcases Lemme's incredible aptitude as a pop artist who deserves our full attention.īelow, Betta Lemme tells PopCrush about the colors she sees when listening to Ready for the Weekend and details how several of its songs came together. ![]() Keeping all of this in mind, Resident Evil 7 on Madhouse difficulty could take over 10-14 hours to finish, depending on the player's capabilities. Additionally, players will have to find one-time usable cassettes to save their game over at the tape recorder. Players experiencing the game on Madhouse difficulty will notice altered enemy behavior and their locations, surprisingly low resources, as well as new collectibles. Once players have beaten the game, a Madhouse difficulty setting is unlocked that offers a more challenging survivor horror experience. On normal difficulty, Resident Evil 7 could take over 9-10 hours to beat. RELATED: Rumor: Resident Evil 7 Next-Gen Upgrade in the Works In Resident Evil 7, however, players only get to play as Ethan Winters, which significantly reduces the time it takes to finish the main campaign. These campaigns focused on returning Resident Evil characters such as Leon Kennedy, Chris Redfield, and Ada Wong while also introducing a new protagonist, Jake Muller, in another one. 2012's Resident Evil 6 featured four distinct campaigns that intertwined at some point. Resident Evil series is known to tuck away multiple single-player campaigns in a single package. Resident Evil 7 is currently available for free on Xbox Game Pass and PS Plus Collection and may serve as the perfect appetizer before its next-gen sequel arrives. And why not? It’s practically perfect.Resident Evil 8 is still a few months away from release, and new players may want to experience Resident Evil 7before heading on to meet the internet's favorite Lady Dimitrescu in the upcoming game. Capcom, and action games, have chased that “Resident Evil 4” high for more than a decade now. But you can’t blame them for trying to repeat perfection - fruitless as those efforts have been. ![]() Many view it as both the savior and the downfall of survival horror games, kick-starting Capcom’s obsession with zombie action over fear. Over time, Resident Evil fans have developed mixed feelings for the fourth game. The raw confidence in its action systems, enemies and mechanics inspired a generation of action game directors, who would then go on to lead their titles with similarly panicked introductions, like the train wreck of “Uncharted 2.” In “RE4,” you never knew what to expect, and the game never lets off the pedal. “Resident Evil 4′s” first five minutes offer one of the most striking first impressions a video game has ever made, mobbing you with angry Spanish villagers, all communicating with each other, wielding tools like pitchforks and chain saws, and opening doors and propping up ladders. Resident Evil Remakeīeyond the angle, the game raised the bar in action pacing. Even if other games did it better, no game does it quite like “Resident Evil 2.” 2002 3. And even though Nemesis upped the pursuer monster game, Mr. Being on two separate discs meant there were four different ways to play the game. Even its excellent 2019 remake couldn’t replicate the divergent storytelling. It basically wedged two games into one, giving you two protagonists who go on different paths throughout the world, often times fighting completely different monsters and meeting new characters. It was directed by Hideki Kamiya, who admitted to disliking horror, and pushed the game to have more zombies, more creatures and more arenas.Įven if it’s a bit rough around the edges to play today, it still does things that modern day Resident Evil games haven’t done. It laid the foundation of many series principles, including multiple perspectives, a hard right turn into science fiction storytelling, and the introduction of one, big, persistent monster hounding you throughout the experience. The first sequel is the “Link to the Past” of the series. For now, the sixth game stands as the popular but maligned adrenaline-fueled outlier of the series. It was a game so out of character for the series that the team pivoted hard back to horror for the next sequel. Despite the fact that the game is awful at teaching you its mechanics, it’s a damn fine action game, and a robust evolution of the combat mechanics of “Resident Evil 4,” letting its characters become fully-formed combat experts and zombie martial artists. Still, this title’s low place on the list hurts me. While it was critically lambasted for its departure from horror, it’s still the best-selling entry in the series. The game was littered with quick time events, and its denouement included fighting a zombie Tyrannosaurus rex with a Jeep. It’s the game that took Resident Evil’s cinematic ambitions to farcical, absurd extremes, almost ditching its horror roots in all but name and aesthetics. ![]() ![]() This placement shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone who follows the series. ![]() |
